JUST ONE QUESTION A quarter century has changed the way eyewear is designed, made, sold and worn T wenty-five years is a long time in eyewear. In that period, the industry has changed almost beyond recognition. Frames have evolved from primarily functional products into expressions of personality, fashion and identity, while advances in materials and manufacturing have made them lighter, stronger and more comfortable. Design has been one of the industry's clear successes. Independent designers and established brands alike have challenged traditional shapes, experimented with materials and created frames recognised far beyond the optical world. The line between eyewear and fashion has also become increasingly blurred, giving the category a stronger cultural presence. Retail has evolved too. Consumers now have access to more brands, information and choices than ever before. Digital platforms, social media and virtual try-ons have transformed how people discover and shop for eyewear. Yet the optical professional remains essential, particularly when it comes to expertise, fitting and helping consumers make informed decisions.
