ParfumPlus
IN THIS EXCLUSIVE interview with ParfumPlus Magazine, Fabien Javelle reflects on a perfumery journey shaped by science, culture and curiosity. Introduced to fragrance at ISIPCA in 2014, he quickly recognised scent as both art and emotional language, refining his vision at the École Supérieure du Parfum before entering the industry through functional fragrance creation in Barcelona. A move to Dubai in 2024 expanded his creative horizons, immersing him in the richness of Middle Eastern scent traditions. Now with CPL Aromas, Javelle shares insights on growth, global influences and the philosophy guiding his evolving signature as a contemporary perfumer. Speaking Scents Crafting Aromas AcrossWorlds Fabien Javelle, Perfumer of CPL Aromas, on culture, craft and the experiences shaping his modern olfactory voice PARFUMPLUS: YOU DISCOVERED PERFUMERY AS BOTH AN ART FORM AND AN EMOTIONAL MEDIUM DURING YOUR STUDIES. WAS THERE A DEFINING MOMENT WHEN YOU REALISED IT WAS NOT SIMPLY A DISCIPLINE, BUT YOUR TRUE CALLING? Fabien Javelle: I realised perfumery was a true calling when I began blending raw materials myself. I discovered how much I enjoyed creating new trials and exploring the different effects each ingredient could bring. In perfumery, we often say that 1 + 1 equals 3 — and that magic is exactly what makes working with raw materials so fascinating. PP: HOW DID YOUR ACADEMIC TRAINING SHAPE THE BALANCE YOU STRIKE TODAY BETWEEN TECHNICAL PRECISION AND ARTISTIC INTUITION? FJ: My background is originally in biology, where laboratory work, experimentation, and molecular understanding were central to my studies. P A R F U M P L U S 34
