AUSTRALIA My childhood friend, Raphael, had been in Australia since a year before. As I landed in Perth, he was there to welcome me. My memories of Australia are innumerable, and. it’s impossible to not skip from one to the other. There were Mike and Niahm, a lovely Irish couple, whose kids, Kiera, Ben and Caitlin, I would babysit. They were the kindest people I’ve known. I have fond memories of cooking with their kids. Their youngest kid was my little sunshine during my time with them. Mamy was another friend I made there. Originally from Madagascar, Mamy taught me the virtues and methods of being patient. I’m forever indebted to her for this. Raphael also introduced me to his other friends. We’d go fishing every weekend on his engine boat. Raphael and Thomas, an Irish boy, taught me how to spearfish and also fish with a rod. I was never really lucky with fishing though. No matter what bait I used, I could never catch a fish. I did, however, once manage to get a fish to bite. It turned out to be a shark, which left me standing with a broken rod. That was one of the funniest moments of my life. We still laugh about it when we chat. And yes, every time I spray on my fragrance, even today often it takes me back to my time in Australia. INDONESIA After seven months in Australia, it was time to move on. I had saved enough to travel. My next destination was Bali, Indonesia. I applied for a job at a travel agency as I had studied sport and tourism but I really had no idea what to expect at this place. Thankfully, I had Cedric, who was both my mentor as well as my boss. He trained me to plan and create travel plans for tourists visiting Bali and I realised this was my calling and what I wanted to really do in the future. I even learned to ride a scooter in Bali. Also, during this time, I also made a very special friendship with my colleague Ata, a very sweet Indonesian girl. After six months of internship, Cedric offered me the job but I wanted to travel again and I knew it was time to say goodbye to Bali. At least for now. And yes, every time I spray on my fragrance, even today often it takes me back to my time in Australia P A R F U M P L U S 7
